Why have a Grave Garden
Grave Gardens have been around for centuries and have served many purposes. In Victorian times they served a a way to create natural spaces within urban centers to attract visitors (LINK TO https://www.talkdeath.com/magnificent-seven-cemeteries/). Before public parks existed in urban areas, these early cemeteries acted as both burial grounds and relaxing park like destinations where people would take picnics around the gravestones, and were designed with landscapes full of trees, shrubbery, and flowers growing amongst the tombstones. Many people use Headstones and grave gardens as a way to pay tribute to a loved one, share stories and family history with each other and younger generations. Grave gardens can help with mourning, meditating and working through the natural cycle of life and death. Grave Gardens to some , symbolize life, and a natural rebirth. Headstone gardens help to continue the bond with the deceased.
About Us
As a young boy I remember visiting the cemetery with my mother the weekend before memorial day in order to plant flowers at my grandparents, uncle, and other relatives gravesites. When I was very young, grave gardening was not always what I wanted to do, but I did grow to enjoy the experience of planting flowers as a way to hear stories about how great of a man my grandfather was. I enjoyed hearing about how my grandmother was an amazing cook. How the family welcomed everyone into there home. I enjoyed learning about my family moving from Pennsylvania to Ohio, about my grandfathers service in WWI as a cook. I loved to imagine their day to day lives. I know that my mother took pride in being able to take take care of the gravesites of her in-laws. Today, I share the same experience with my children as we plant flowers at my parents, grandparents gravesites. It is an experience that I believe the kids cherish, and a time in which they get to hang out with cousins, their uncle, and aunt. I appreciate the bond that grave gardening created with my mom and I, and now my children as we work through and meditate the cycle of life. Memorial Blooms is a family owned and operated business that takes pride in providing a beautiful gravesite and headstone setting for everyone that visits your sacred grounds.
